Overview
Voilà dix ans que Pridamant cherche son fils Clindor dont il a provoqué la fuite par son autoritarisme. Dorante le conduit en Touraine chez le magicien Alcandre, qui annonce à Pridamant qu'il reverra son fils. Alcandre éloigne Dorante et explique que Clindor, après avoir exercé divers métiers, est entré à Bordeaux au service d'un capitan, Matamore. Le magicien entraîne Pridamant dans sa grotte : il lui fera voir son fils en usant de « spectres pareils à des corps animés ».
Pridamant devra garder le silence et ne pas sortir. Apparaissent Clindor et Matamore, qui lance force rodomontades et dit sa flamme pour Isabelle. Après s'être joués de lui, Isabelle et Clindor s'avouent leur amour...
